3000 mile Ride the Future Tour continues on Guinness World Record Journey
Susan Jones of Xenon Motors started out with a big dream. In 2011, she decided to set a Guinness World Record for the longest journey on an electric scooter.
Fast forward to 2013 and that dream has grown into the Ride the Future Tour, an epic road trip spanning the width of the United States, involving 44 cities and stops along the way and setting not one, but four Guinness World Records.
The team of 12 set out from Charleston, SC on 4th July 2013 and continue to ride approximately 3000 miles across America in electric cars, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles, ending at Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA on 16th August 2013.
For Susan Jones, the journey is an opportunity to make one very clear statement. “Ride the Future aims to demonstrate the importance of moving towards clean, affordable and sustainable sources of energy to help combat the many environment threats our planet faces.
“The future depends on the choices we make today and it’s time for us all make the changes we need to see,” she said.
The tour will make stopovers in 44 cities to celebrate with local communities in support of our statement on the environment.
The entire journey, from Charleston right through to Google Headquarters, will be captured on film as part of a documentary putting our unique spin on the current need for us all to move towards a cleaner future. The film will be highlighting the beauty of the southern American landscape, the big cities and the small towns, the amazing people met and our collective commitment to change for the better.
“We’ll be highlighting to a mass population how amazing electric vehicles really are. We’re setting out to show everyone who’s sick of spending buckets of money on gasoline that there IS another option – even if you want to take a cross country road trip! Gas is out, electric is in and we are ready to celebrate!” said Susan Jones.
The core team will also be celebrating with up to 15 cyclists from each city, joining for individual legs of the journey. They’ll be riding A2B bicycles for about a 100 mile trek to benefit breast cancer research.
The team is set to arrive at Google Headquarters on August 16th for one epic celebration before collecting a string of Guinness World Records for the longest journey by electric car, motorcycle, scooter and bicycle, as well as longest journey by largest combination of electric vehicles.
“This is an epic journey,” said Jones, “and we are relying on the support of local communities, the press and our own stamina to get us through to the finish line! I’m confident it will be one incredible journey.”
