Green is the new Black!

In case you haven’t heard….green is the new black! Electric Vehicles are THE big trend of 2013, and a trend that is here to stay. Going gas free isn’t just good for your wallet (which it is btw; how much have you been enjoying paying $4.50/gallon for gas??), but they’re also great for this pretty sweet environment we call home, as well as for the local economy. Who doesn’t want to fatten up their wallet, go green, and boost the economy all at the same time?

Plus, sometimes you get to drive in the carpool lane. All by yourself.

You’ve probably seen a Toyota Prius or another form of hybrid engine car on your daily commute. Actually, you’ve probably seen a bunch of them. And this is fantastic! A representative from a Los Angeles Toyota dealership recently told me that they sold more hybrid vehicles in the first three months of 2013 than they sold TOTAL VEHICLES of any kind in 2012. CRAZY! But did you know you can go totally gas free? As in never, ever, ever visit the pump?

Electric vehicles (EVs) are propelled by an electric motor (or motors) powered by rechargeable battery packs. This means zero gas and just a simple recharge- a lot like plugging in your cell phone overnight to prepare for the day. EVs offer several advantages over traditional vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICEs):

  • Energy efficient. Electric vehicles convert about 59–62% of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels—conventional gasoline vehicles only convert about 17–21% of the energy stored in gasoline to power at the wheels. So you’re getting a lot more bang for your buck!
  • Environmentally friendly. EVs emit no tailpipe pollutants, although the power plant producing the electricity may emit them- hoElectricity from nuclear-, hydro-, solar-, or wind-powered plants causes no air pollutants. Even with the plants (although a lot of plants are trying to go greener), the emissions you’re saving are pretty significant.
  • Performance benefits. Electric motors provide quiet, smooth operation and stronger acceleration and require less maintenance than ICEs. Perfect for spying on your ex or stalking your crush. Wait what?
  • Reduce energy dependence. Electricity is a domestic energy source. Aha! That means the little money you ARE spending is going back into feeding the folks in your home country instead of foreign oil sources. Independence is awesome. Just ask Destiny’s Child. All the honeys who makin’ money, throw your hands up at me!

We all know how fast technology moves. I mean just take a look at your computer phone…I mean smart phone. Anyone recall the “car phone”? The giant cellular telephone that came in its own briefcase and plugged into your car? Just look at how quickly we’ve progressed to the world of iPhones and Androids. The technology for EV’s is constantly under development and is just going to get better and better. Fortunately in 2013 we’re at a point that what’s available on the market today is pretty darn amazing. The future is happening today- lets take it for a ride!
